Early Morning
Hunts Wyoming PP System

We would like to help you better utilize and understand this complicated system. This system will allow anyone the chance to hunt in Wyoming’s premier trophy areas.

Antelope HuntingFirst, let me mention that this system only operates on 75% of the allotted tags.  The other 25% is still drawn in a truly random lottery. This means that all applicants have an equal chance at a fourth of the licenses whether they have no points or 10 points. I believe this is a great aspect of Wyoming’s system because it always gives a hunter some chance. So start applying now. Residents have been under this system for about a dozen years for our sheep and moose tags, and I know of many hunters that have drawn with few or no points.

Now explaining the system for drawing the other 75% of the tags is pretty simple. The applicants are drawn from a pool with the maximum number of points.  If that pool is exhausted and there are still tags, then applicants are drawn from a pool of those with 1 point less and so on down the line. The maximum number of points will vary significantly from year to year and area to area. It seems like most of our hard to draw areas will take three or four years of applying to build enough points to guarantee a tag.

Elk HuntingFurther complicating things, the game and fish department allows applicants to apply with or without gaining a preference point. Another option is to buy your preference points after the draw.

HUNTERS MAY BUY POINTS FROM JULY TO THE END OF SEPTEMBER. Buying the points has become a great way for hunters to plan ahead and not actually put in for a tag until they are ready to do the hunt. No one can receive more than one point per species per year.

We hope this system can be utilized by our clients and we would love to help hunters plan a hunt for the future!

SPECIAL DEAL:  D&D outfitters will pay you back for your preference points up to five years.  So you can build points now and take that expense off of our price! This deal applies to elk, deer and antelope only.
