Whitetail deer are the most common and popular big game animal in North America. In Wyoming we are fortunate to be able to hunt a variety of game. Out of all the animals I’ve hunted, I must say the whitetail deer and the coyote are the smartest. Whitetails are cautious and sneaky by nature. Several times I’ve learned of big bucks in our area that were never seen during daylight hours.

At D&D Outfitters our whitetail hunting is done mostly from stands. These can be in the trees or on the ground. That makes this a much different hunt than our other ones. Time spent on stands here is usually never boring with pheasants, red fox, coyotes, and maybe even a moose that could walk by.

The whitetail deer is a relative new comer to the Bighorn Basin, having moved in and taken hold over the last 30 years. The bucks here do run big! Bucks in the 130” to 160” are pretty common. Another thing to keep in mind is that you may still need to shoot long range to better your chances on these hunts. So if you’d like to hunt a mature whitetail buck in a very low pressure area, think of D&D.
